Theme 2026

Each year, Buddhafield has a theme. It offers a sense of cohesion and connection in the year. We create rituals, music, poetry and art around it from our first event, through our team gatherings, over Buddhafield Festival and Green Earth Awakening and off into winter

Waves of Stillness

We move through the world as a single pattern. But the physical world flows through us. The air we breathe, the food we eat, the water we drink, becomes a part of us for a time. They join us in our dance only to leave... We borrow our existence from the cosmos. We flow on until, like spirals of water, we fade back into the calm.
Brian Koberlein

When faced with a paradox, our first instinct is to try to resolve it. But if we can expand our awareness, we will recognise that at a higher level both truths can be present without contradiction.

Stillness arises only from movement; music from silence; a painting from empty space. In helping oneself one can help others. After withdrawing from the world, one returns renewed.

Only when the patient seed has waited through the winter can the spring rains awaken the possibility of transformation.

Locana

Meeting Locana

Our theme image is of Locana, a female Buddha representing clear-seeing wisdom.

Mumukshu is an artist and has a long association with Buddhafield. Mumukshu introduces her drawing of Locana:

Her element is water and her colour is blue. I wanted it to appear like she is melting and flowing into water that comes to rest in a still pool, to represent her imperturbability.

I think of imperturbability as stillness; remaining unruffled and steady in the face of chaos; equanimity even.

The still pool also represents her clarity - a clear seeing of the way things really are.

We will be explring this theme in our Waves of Stillness online retreat with Dayajoti, Kamalanandi, Jayasuri, Muditajina and Joanna Spence in November 2026.
