Buddhafield Cafe

A warm welcome and lovingly made vegan food

Buddhafield Cafe came into being in the Healing Fields of Glastonbury Festival in the 1990s as the Green Buddha Cafe, a fundraising initiative to support meditation teaching at the festival.

We provide a warm welcome and a drug-and alcohol-free environment for hungry festival goers.

The Cafe's ethos is to lovingly make wholesome vegan food from organic and locally sourced ingredients including our iconic cooked breakfast, a classic creamy coconut curry and our much-loved daily specials, such as Shepherdess Pie, lasagne, and nut roast. We also serve fresh ground coffee and chai.

Some fun facts

In 2025, at Glastonbury Festival, Buddhafield Festival and Green Gathering, we served:

1409 breakfasts
429 Roast dinners
1080 coconut curries
874 cups of chai
692 burgers
Wow!

That’s a lot of tomatoes and mushrooms chopped, vegan sausage and burger patties rolled, slices of bread toasted, and cans of beans opened!

TJ, our data cruncher and expert pancake maker, reckons our teams of volunteers washed up approximately 10,000 plates and bowls and 6000 mugs in 2025.

A heartfelt thank you to all the Cafe volunteers for cheerfully chopping, washing up, and dancing their way through the long shifts under canvas, whatever the weather.

This is what cafe volunteer Naomi says about their experience:

Volunteering at the cafe provides a ready-made community for you to grow with.

The structure of the shifts and the roles allow you to build connections quickly from the first induction meeting.

The check-ins create a supportive, safe, and joyous space to be unapologetically whatever version of yourself is present that day, and this is carried through to the kitchen and the festival!

You work hard and connect harder, as every single soul who volunteers has so much to enlighten you.

Matt: a sense of belonging

Dan and Naomi - friends from the Buddhafield Cafe

Arriving solo, my role within the café team quickly gave me a sense of belonging and place within the festival. Our shift group formed a solid bond, and as our festival experience unfolded together, I was amazed how close we became in just a few days through teamwork, shared responsibility, and our daily check-in circles. Connecting with each other, serving wholesome vegan food, and playing some great music felt like a symbiotic sweet spot. In giving our energy to the festival-goers, each on their own unique and profound Buddhafield journey, while not looking for reward, we received just as much in return through our participation and shared experience.

Dan: Volunteering in the café was a new thing for me, working in a large team and delivering food at scale. I quickly sank into the sense of community, meeting new people and having conversations about music, travel, meditation, yoga, and life in general. There was something so rewarding about chopping carrots and having laughs with people. Chopping veg is still one of my favourite aspects of volunteering! Within that space, I forged a very special connection with Naomi. We clicked quickly and started hanging out outside of the café. She represents the kind of meaningful friendship forged midway into my 30s that fills me with hope and inspiration. Whether it's us two joking around in the sauna at Glastonbury or looking up at the stars on a retreat. We have a very meaningful connection, and I have Buddhafield to thank for that.

Naomi: I deeply treasure our continually blossoming friendship, having experiences together at further festivals, visiting each other's hometowns and encouraging each other to keep exploring what it means to be human. He’s a really special pal, and it’s thanks to Buddhafield cafe that we found each other.
