Green Earth Awakening FAQs

Answers to common questions about the Green Earth Awakening to help you plan your attendance.

Where and When

What are the dates for the 2026 Green Earth Awakening Camp?

9th-13th September

Why is Green Earth Awakening a drug- and alcohol-free camp?

At Green Earth Awakening, the focus is on what happens when you take these things away. It’s not about deprivation; it’s about creating space for a different experience. Genuine connection and joy are hallmarks of the festival, and it provides room to explore more challenging concepts and emotions, such as grief and global issues.

Where is the site?

The postcode is TA3 7RL but this will not take you precisely to the public gate. Please look out for signs.

The What3Words for the public gate is here:
///flinches.flags.impaired

A Google map location for the public gate is here.

The main entrance is opposite a school so please do not plan to arrive to site on weekdays between 3pm and 4pm as this will conflict with the school traffic.

Public Transport

Lift Shares

Lift offers/requests can be found on our Facebook Buddhafield liftshare page.

What time does Green Earth Awakening start and end?

Gates are open from midday Wednesday for full event ticket holders.

Entry for weekend ticket holders is from 1pm on Friday.

We ask that you leave site by midday on Monday.

Can I leave the camp and get back in?

You can always leave the site. However, you can only get back in when the gate is open with your wristband. The gate opens at 10am each morning, and closes at 8pm each night except for Sunday when we close at 3pm.

Getting Involved

Applications for volunteers, workshops, bands, movement healers, campaigns and other contributors are through this page.

The focus for this event is on experience, community and reflection therefore, we do not have applications for external traders at this event. We have a couple of stalls and small, independent cafes offering tea, cake, pancakes, etc.

Applications typically start opening in the spring and close throughout the summer up until the event date in some cases. Since each area has its own schedule, please click on the ones you're interested in for more details. Areas may close early if oversubscribed so it's best to apply as soon as possible.

On Site

This event is a small gathering across two fields. Everything is close together.

You can pick up a programme at the info point and see our daily boards.

The Green Earth Awakening is shaped by the spiral of The Work That Reconnects, developed by eco-philosopher and activist Joanna Macy — a transformative journey through Coming from Gratitude, Honouring Our Pain for the World, Seeing with New/Ancient Eyes, and Going Forth.

Camping and Live-ins

Unloading and Packing your Car

For safety reasons, we are unable to allow campers to park next to their vehicles. However, the site is very compact and the car park field is the same field as the camping, so you will not need to carry your belongings over any long distances.

We do not have a separate accessible area for this event due to the proximity of all the facilities and offerings to the live-in and camping field.

The Camping Areas

We do not offer any 'glamping' facilities, so you will need to bring your own tent or live-in vehicle with you.

We expect all camping areas to be fairly quiet at night. People are asked to socialise around the fire in the main field if staying up later.

Live-ins

A “live-in” is defined as any vehicle in which you intend to sleep while on site. Live-in vehicles are only allowed to park in the live-in section of the field.

A live-in is not a people carrier, or any other medium-sized vehicle you want to park near (i.e. for storage). If you buy a Live-in pass for a vehicle that won't be occupied, we’ll refund the difference in passes. You'll need to leave the vehicle in the car park.

We can’t accept very large motor homes (e.g. Winnebagos), full-size coaches (neither of these will make it through all the gates) or vehicles over 7.5 tons.

Other General Information

Are there cash machines on site?

No, the closest ATMs are in Taunton or Wellington. There may be some contactless on site but it is notoriously unreliable - it's best to bring cash with you. There are not many traders at the event so a bit of money for cake, chai, pancakes etc. is enough.

I have a disability: can I still come to the festival?

Yes. Please get in touch with us via our contact form to ask any questions or get information that will facilitate your attendance.

Can I bring my dog?

Please do not bring dogs, cats or other animals. We will ask you to leave with them.

Personal assistance dogs are permitted, as long as a request is made to us in advance and via our contact form. We will ask for proof of eligibility to have an assistance dog. Then it is permitted to walk around the site with the dog on a lead when working, as long as it is identified as such and the owner takes responsibility for clearing up after them.

Fire

There are fire safety points in the campsite and live in vehicle fields.

Due to the fire regulations for the events, only open fires, braziers, and BBQs approved by Buddhafield are allowed. In tented areas, we prefer that battery or solar charged lighting is used, and any cooking by camping gas is outside the tent, away from any flammable materials.

Parents/caregivers are responsible for their child(ren) around all fires.

There is a communal fire pits onsite with firewood provided a safe distance away. Please don’t strip wood from the hedges or trees.

Can I buy food at the event?

There are a few small cafes selling tea, coffee, cakes, pancakes etc., but no full hot meals. Meals are included in the cost of your ticket price.

Music

There will be amplified and acoustic music, programmed and impromptu, at the fire and at our music venue in the evenings and occasionally in some of our workshop spaces during the day. The event is neither a retreat nor an all-night party, so we ask you to consider our position on both extremes.

Whilst we are asking participants to be considerate about making noise outside of certain timeframes, within those timeframes there will be amplified music that may not suit your tastes, either in style, volume or times of day.

Music may be played at the following times during the event:

9am-11pm on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Sunday
9am-12pm, Saturday

  • Be considerate of fellow campers in the camping areas between 23:00 and 07:00.
  • No unauthorised sound systems or amplifiers to be brought on site.
  • If you'd like to stay up all night and chat around a fire please do,  but only at our public fire pits. We ask that you are aware that sound travels on the site and people are likely to be sleeping nearby.
  • We ask people to be considerate about drumming at all times, but especially after dusk. No drumming at all after the end of amplified music (see above) until at least 10am.

Saunas and Showers

Hot showers are available from early to late throughout the camp. Only eco—friendly soap, shampoo, shower gel, washing up liquid etc to be used on site, please.

The sauna is open from early to late. You can buy a sauna pass in advance or at the gate. This will give you a wristband and access to the sauna throughout the camp.

Please note this is a clothing-optional space, so there will be naked people in this area. Please note the following:

  • You may be comfortable being fully naked, but please offer consideration to those people who, given our culture, find nudity distracting, challenging or even threatening.
  • Green Earth Awakening is otherwise a clothes-on event, so please get dressed before leaving the showers and sauna area.
  • We reserve the right to ask anyone, at any time, to either put on clothes or exit a space or area.
  • If someone’s state of nudity is regarded as sexually inappropriate, we will ask them to cover themselves, and if this request is not followed, the person will be asked to leave the site.
  • If you feel that you are on the receiving end of inappropriate sexual behaviour, please report it to the Info Point, Peacekeepers or Safeguarding Team.

Children under 12 cannot access the sauna. Under-18s must be accompanied by their parent or guardian at all times in this area. After 9pm, the area is for adults only.

Waste and Recycling

Buddhafield believes strongly in protecting the environment, and each year we work hard to make our events more sustainable. We are committed to leaving no physical trace of our activities wherever we gather. We clean up after ourselves and endeavour, whenever possible, to leave the place where we have been in a better state than we found it.

As there are only a couple of cafes selling cakes and pancakes, and no shops at Green Earth Awakening, our litter output is very low. There are no public bins on site and we ask that you take any litter you produce home with you. Sanitary waste can be placed in the compost loos at the event. Nappies are the one exception; they can be placed in the site bins- ask at info on site for the location.

Other General Information

Safeguarding

Buddhafield takes Safeguarding seriously. Whilst we draw our ethical guidance from the Buddhist precepts we also recognise the importance of operating within known social protocols regarding the safety of Children and Vulnerable/At Risk Adults.

At the Green Earth Awakening, we have a safeguarding point of contact on site who can be reached via any team member with a radio or via the wellbing area.

If you wish to discuss any issues relating to Safeguarding, then please do email buddhafieldsafeguarding@protonmail.com.
You can find out more about safeguarding & Buddhafield here.

eDrones, Photography, Filming

Ticket holders consent to inclusion in official photographic, visual and audio promotion of the event. We regret that, in most cases, it would be impossible to ask personal permission to reproduce your image. However, if you have any concerns about this, please talk to either the info point or the photographer and we will do our best to ensure that you do not appear in images or videos.

We ask that all other photographs or filming is done with sensitivity and respect of the people involved and where reasonable with their permission.  Participants in the event are expected to take photographs/videos and it is not possible for the event team to restrict such activity.

Any concerns raised about the actions of a person taking photographs or filming during the event should be reported to Info Point who will contact safeguarding or the event manager. Any unmanned aircraft/drone, or radio controls of any size or type, are not allowed into the venue.  If such a device, or controls for such a device, are found, the organisers reserve the right to refuse entry or confiscate the item.

Lost Children

You or your child can alert a steward, the Info Point, the wellbeing area or kids area or anyone with a two-way radio if you and child have become separated. They will contact the safeguarding lead who will go through the lost procedure from there.

The site is very compact so it should be possible to reunite you very quickly. The lost child point is at the info point tent, which is on your left as you come from the campsite. You can ask your child to meet you there if you become separated and they cannot find you again quickly.

What happens to lost property?

During the event, please visit the info point for lost property.

On the afternoon of the last day of the event, all Lost Property is put out for collection at the info point.  Any items not claimed before the Info Point closes are kept on site for three days after the event. Then, any items of considerable value are held for two months until claimed. If you want to check for lost property, please contact us.  For each item returned, an administration fee of £10 is charged on top of the cost of postage, as agreed with the claimant prior to returning. Due to the volume of lost property, and lack of storage, any other items left at the end of the event are either donated to a charity shop or if unusable, disposed of in the landfill waste on-site.
