Many people are asking each other questions like these:
What can we do to support each other in times of crisis?
How can we change our consumption patterns?
How can we overcome the challenges that the world is facing?
What can I do to have a positive impact on the planet?
Are we all doomed at this point?
We are fundraising to create a Buddhist community that will nurture a resource and events centre on 70 acres of land. Our goal is to support the practical exploration of answers to these questions. We aim to build sustainable, connected local economies and communities through ecological restoration, incubating social innovation, courses, and more. We’ll also continue to run our successful events and enterprises, including the Buddhafield Festival and Buddhafield Cafe.
Buddhafield Base will inspire change, connection and simplicity to support the well-being of the planet and its inhabitants. It is a bold way to live sustainably together while addressing the essential causes of our present crises. It will create opportunities for meaningful work, creativity and imagination, community, and care for land and ecology through a sense of place, purpose and belonging.
Rooted in Buddhism, the Buddhafield Base project is committed to offering skills and experiences to groups and individuals who want to explore answers to the questions that are most important to them.

Buddhafield Base Values
At Buddhafield Base, we seek to grow, reconnect and be of service through our four values:
Care for Land and Ecology
Land is integral to Buddhafield. It’s where we connect with the elements, strip away our complex lives and live simply, together. It’s where we can experience a new and beneficial way to live.
At Base, we aim to grow our own organic food, develop a forest garden, re-wild areas and support local biodiversity. Our buildings will be eco-conscious, with energy drawn from renewable sources.
Authentic Community
In a community, we find others and we find ourselves. The beauty and challenge of relationships are opportunities for generosity, forgiveness and bravery. These are the qualities that move us beyond our self-centredness.
At Base, we will have a permanent community with space for individuals and families. We have a strong track record of creating powerful, temporary communities that come together for events or projects. They leave with a lasting connection to a collective sense of purpose and belonging. This focus will continue through events, volunteer projects, trainings, and other activities and celebrations.
Meaningful Work
Buddhafield offers opportunities for people to work in teams while creating our events and looking after land and kit. Meeting the challenge of working together outdoors in all weathers develops skills, confidence and collaboration skills. The bonding and shared purpose dissolve the sense of isolation felt by many.
Base will increase opportunities for volunteers and teams to work together in support of our events, courses, and community. By providing opportunities for shared purpose in a context supporting regenerative working practices, Base offers a radical antidote to the dominant paradigms of alienation and burnout.
·Celebration of Imagination and Creativity
Imagination and creativity have drifted to the edge of our daily lives, as if they are not robust enough for the serious business of today’s world. At Buddhafield, we seek to re-centre qualities like these that go hand in hand with renewal and regeneration.
We aim to maintain the golden thread of beauty and inspiration in all our activities. We create systems that encourage people’s inspiration, autonomy, and ability to rejoice in the world. This kind of resourcing is essential if we are to rise to the challenges the world is facing collectively.

Living Bridges Conversations
Buddhafield Base is more than a fundraising project, or a land project or a community. It's about a way of living in the world that's flexible, beneficial, compassionate and effective. While we're on the journey to Buddhafield Base, we're also creating conversations at different events, Buddhist Centres and within a diverse community about what it means to feel like a living bridge.
Living root bridges are a type of simple suspension bridge formed of living plant roots by tree shaping across generations. They are common in the North-Eastern part of India. They last up to 500 years and make connections across rivers and ravines that are resilient and yet integrated into the landscape.
The experiential workshop draws on the Buddha's teaching of conditionality, awareness and insight. It examines how conflict and polarisation manifest in our lives and communities while drawing on our unique lineages and their role in shaping the conditions for creative action in areas of importance to us.
What happens during a workshop?
During the workshop,. participants look at:
- how conflict and polarisation are showing up in their lives
- an area where they would like to make a difference
- creating space to identify and share the linage/ roots of what is important to them
- finding wisdom in the root that can inform skilful means to take action and make a difference
- devising a clear and manageable steps towards action
Facilitators
Our workshop facilitators include: Amaragita, Lucy Barber, Sara Riley and Cait Crosse - all long term members of the Buddhafield team with experience in holding space and diving deeper.
