Stewarding

Welcome

Here you can find out:

  • what the Buddhafield Festival Steward Crew does
  • what you need to be able to commit to
  • additional roles
  • how to volunteer
  • what stewarding at Buddhafield involves

Stewards help to look after everyone at the festival. Being part of the steward crew can be a lot of fun, with many people returning to do it again year after year.

Key roles include:

  • welcoming and processing new arrivals at the gate
  • helping direct on-site traffic, including showing them where to park
  • helping people to find their way safely around the site
  • using walkie-talkies to communicate with other stewards

You don't need special skills and will receive training in your particular role.

If you wish to steward with us, you need to be:

  • Eighteen or over
  • Openhearted with an enthusiastic approach
  • Friendly and interested in helping people
  • Able to be assertive when required
  • You will also need to have the right to work in the UK

Most people find Buddhafield stewarding a very enjoyable experience. However, in offering to help in this way, you will be taking on a job that may be quite busy and demanding at times, so please consider this before applying.

Stewarding opportunities are split into Setup (working pre-festival) and Festival (working during the festival). You can apply to either opportunity.

Opportunity 1: Setup (13 - 17 July)

  • Working as a steward under the direction of the Head and Deputy Steward
  • Arrive Friday 12 July in time for signing in and induction session at 4.45pm, followed by dinner at 6pm with your new teammates
  • Meet with the Head and Deputy Steward after dinner at 7pm for induction and training
  • Work 35-37 hours over five shifts between Saturday, 13 July - Wednesday, 17 July.
  • Work your last shift on Wednesday, 17 July.

In return, you will receive:

  • Training and support in your role
  • A ticket to the Festival
  • Whatever vehicle pass you need
  • Dharma input every day
  • Vegan food (all meals per day, and hot drinks from dinner on Friday 12 July to dinner on Wednesday 17 July)

There may be an opportunity for you to take on a supervisory role. For that, we ask that you have either been to Buddhafield before (in any capacity) or be familiar with stewarding or supervising at other festivals or events.

Please indicate on the application form if you are interested in a supervisory role.

Additional option for Opportunuty 1  : Pre-Setup (7 July - 17 July)

When you sign up for the Pre-Setup opportunity you will be given a further option of joining a smaller team ariving on the 6 July.  We did this for the first time last year and it was wonderful.  Everyone in this team bonded with eachother and with the wider buddhafield community as we were on site from the very beginning of the build. You will work 9 to 10 days in total - 5 days with the smaller team and then 5 to 4 days as part of the larger Setup team.  If you prefer a more relaxed start to the role, would like to see what buddhafield is all about, and you have the extra free time, then this might be the perfect fit for you.

Arrive Saturday, 6 July in time for signing in and induction session at 4.45pm, followed by dinner at 6pm with your new teammates

Meet with the Head and Deputy Steward after dinner at 7pm for induction and training.

  • Whatever vehicle pass you need
  • Dharma input every day
  • Vegan food (1 meal ticket per shift, breakfast and hot drinks) for every day you are on site
