Buddhafield 2002 - 'Buddhafield's Best Yet'The Buddhafield Festival was improved by a move to a new site in 2002 which is situated a few miles from Taunton, on the Black Down Hills. The site was on high ground in two fields and sheltered from the road and breezes by high hedges round its perimeter. Car parking and camping was at the top end of the site. Moving away from the gate you soon came to the main festival area where you found 'shanty style tarpaulin structure's and tepees selling organic fruit and veg, colourful ambient chill- out lounges and workshops where you could do everything from dream-catcher making to tie-dying and lots more besides. The two main marquees had stages with 1 2v systems, powered by people, wind and sun. These hosted entertainment from many different styles and cultures. Jazzy-Folk, Tribal Rhythms The general running order went something like: Mornings-Song, dance, spiritual yoga and musical workshops. Afternoons- Folk and Country singing with guitars and violins etc., leading on to the evening with acoustic bands playing jazzy-folk, tribal rhythms and ambient dance music. Cafe Society A few small Chai-Tea bars were dotted around and another marquee for yoga and meditation was next to a spiritual healing garden and created a really nice area to be in. The second field was quieter and more open and Buddhafield Café did a grand job here, supplying different choices of appetising platefuls daily. The 'kids area' was well organized, busy & arranged the daily procession, around the site. A play, following a Buddhist theme, was put on by the children, coordinated by Helen & Amanda of magical youth. A Fine Show There were spaces too for healing and discussions, candle-lit shrines and creativity in abundance, all brought together in a caring sharing environment, with a happy energetic vibe. Several compost toilets were built around the site and kept clean throughout. The event was a fine show of Buddhist principles in practice and the people who attend benefited from a policy of 'No Drugs, No Drink, and No Dogs'. All in all Buddhafield festival was one of the most peaceful, friendly and beautifully sited events We've had the pleasure to attend. The organisers deserve a meddle!
